Hi Diane,
Interesting to hear about your travels as it seems that you visited some very exotic countries indeed. Hope you took lots of photos on the way. Our travels are usually on a smaller scale around Europe. We like the Scandinavian countries and places such as Estonia ect.
Thanks for the author ideas which I shall certainly follow up when I have a spare moment. Trouble is,I've got such a back-log to read and as from today I'm juggling between three books at the same time.
Anyway I thought I would reply to your kind note and thanks again for the information.
Keep in touch
All the best
Peter
Hello Diane,
I'm delighted that you managed to find some inspiration my library listings. I see that you have got hold of the first Jim Stringer mystery and I hope you enjoy the series. The Laos books are really good too,I agree. Your cruise sounds wonderful and if you have any spare time,I would love to hear more about the countries you visited.
I'm sure that in time you will manage to visit Heffers and their wonderful stock. If you need any further information about the shop and indeed Cambridge itself, don't hesitate to let me know. A bit of pre-preparation never goes amiss methinks.
Nice to hear from you again
Best wishes
Peter
2011's Books for THE HIGHLY RATED BOOK GROUP:

1st Quarter): January 1st, (long gone), -- March 31st.
The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon with an L.T. rating of 4.39.

2nd Quarter): April 1st -- June 30th.
Bleak House by Charles Dickens with an L.T. rating of 4.27.

3rd Quarter): July 1st -- September 30.
The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly with an L.T. rating of 4.05.

And for the 4th and final Quarter of 2011): October 1st -- December 31st.
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton also with an L.T. rating of 4.05.

And perhaps, if cyderry would be so kind to get together another list of L.T. 'highly rated' books come near the end of 2011, we will be able to smoothly segue into 2012. That would be such a treat.
Hi Diane - I do have a few of O'Nan's books on my list. Mostly I want to read them and haven't yet. But I did read Songs for the Missing and thought it was a great book. I really thought the plot might be such a downer and of course it was sad, but he did a great job of putting you there and I thought it was a gem.
Anyway, nice to hear from you.
Debbie
I notice you added Thanatos Syndrome and rated it highly. I just started The Moviegoer for my book club. I read something of Percy's earlier - can't quite remember what - and thought it was hard to get through.

Hi, Diane,

Enjoy Mexico and I hope you enjoy Mr.Simmons' work.

Regards,

Peter
Ah yes, I am not as much a British mystery fan, but I do like Deborah Crombie's series which I discovered in 2009. I am working my way slowly through it. I am what you would call a SPLASHer(Sometimes Prefer Light And Sometimes Heavy) mystery reader. You seem more of SHADY(Somewhat Heavier And Darker Yarns) mystery reader. I see you noticed my current beginning of the Daniel Silva novels (protagonist-Gabriel Allon). We are currently discussing the third book in the series The Confessor in the reading group. His series is part of a series read we do where we pick an author and read the first 3 novels in the series and discuss then them. I'm not so sure I like his series though. There are plenty of British mystery lovers in that yahoo mystery group. Hope you enjoy.

Hi, Diane,
I hope you enjoy Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I liked it.

I was at a reading by Susanna Clarke in 2005. She read a footnote that she hadn't quite finished before getting her MSS to the publisher. Admittedly she was reading from double-spaced pages, but the footnote was sixteen pages long.

Regards,

Peter
Hi Disie, thanks for saying hello, nice to meet another reader of everything. I've heard that Rhode Island is a beautiful place.

I hope you enjoy library thing, I've had a lot of fun here and made some great friends so can highly recommend getting to know the site.

And I agree about the peas. :-)
Hi and welcome to librarything. I noticed your comment in a thread at The Highly Rated Book Group. I belong to a yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/4_Mystery_Addicts. We will be discussing The Mistress of the Art of Death in February. You still have time to read it if you like and participate in the discussion if you like. Lucky me, I will be directing the discussion. It's a big group and everyone chimes in when they like. You may want to check if out if you are interested in that particular read. Otherwise, have fun with LT. I love this site!

Hi, Again,

In relation to "Stone's Fall", it was published in 2009. Currently I am about the half-way point, and am enjoying the tale.

I have only read Pears' "An Instance of the Fingerpost", which I found very enjoyable. I have a number of his other novels in my "to read" pile. "Stone's Fall" is being read in advance of the others as it was a Christmas present from my wife.

I notice we have 26 books in common. Unfortunately I have only read 13 of them, although the majority of the others are on my "to be read soon" pile. (The 13 books I have read are, the two Umberto Ecos; "Hyperion" & "Drood" by Dan Simmons; the Harry Potters; the Iain Banks novels; "The Yiddish Policemen's Union"; "Jonathan Strange & Mr.Norrell"; "The Stranger"; "Something Wicked This Way Comes".)

Regards,

Peter
Hi, Disie,
Nice to meet you, and I hope you find LibraryThing interesting.

I found "The Fall of Hyperion" to be an excellent book. I regard "Hpyerion" and "The Fall of Hyperion" as one book in two volumes.

"The Fall of Hyperion" was very spiritual, even more so than the first volume.

I hope you enjoy it. It is well worth reading if you enjoyed "Hyperion".

By the way, don't bother with any of the books that are supposed to follow on from "The Fall of Hyperion".

Peter
