I'm new, and I'd like to encounter some of the regulars on this site. I've really enjoyed nerdily listing my books, although it's a marathon task. Reading has been my love and my friend through all the years of my life - hope I don't have to wait for months and undergo initian ceremonies involving chickens in order to join in! Chickens? Good heavens, no. (I'll plead the Fifth on Smurfs and Pirates). (And my personal favorite: blue-footed boobys.) One good way to find your feet is to lurk around some of the groups that sound interesting to you. From each Group Page, you can see what kinds of things they talk about, and how active they are. Another way is to browse people's libraries, and when you find an interesting one, see what groups that person belongs to - and check them out. When you've joined a few groups, and added a few to your watch list, you can set the Talk page to "Your Groups" and the list of message threads won't be so overwhelming. Welcome aboard the most addicting site on the Web! Thank you! How do you join a group? On the Group's main page, look in the upper right corner. The yellow plus that says "Join this Group." Pretty simple. ;-) Ah. Much obliged ; Medi 16, 2009, 4:32pm (top)Message 7: christigucYes, welcome, amy173! thank you! how do I track the activities of a person I am 'privately watching?' Medi 16, 2009, 6:50pm (top)Message 10: MerryMaryI'm not sure. But someone will answer. I just checked out your profile pic. Gives "privately watching" a whole new image! Medi 16, 2009, 6:51pm (top)Message 11: amy173I know! I'm usually so gifted in survaillance. So what's the point in 'friending' or privately watching, then? Medi 16, 2009, 6:56pm (top)Message 12: MerryMaryI think "private watching" means the person doesn't know you're watching them. What the watching and friending does is result in any new books, reviews, etc. showing up on your home page under Connection News. You can keep track of what they are up to, and read their reviews, etc. Have I forgotten anything, oh denizens of the Thing? Medi 16, 2009, 7:23pm (top)Message 13: christigucYou pretty much have it, MerryMary! :) "Friending" is reciprocal and requires the other person to accept. Adding as an "Interesting Library" means the other person is notified. "Private Watch List" is a list where people won't know you've added them. They all do the same things--the things MerryMary lists in #12. They will show up in connection news and on the work pages. You won't be flagged if you get rid of the spam link. Hyd 27, 2009, 7:08am (top)Message 18: jillmwoHi, amy173! MerryMary was doing the honors all by herself but there are other friendly people who pop up as well! Just plunge in and chat in the various groups and you will find lots of folks who share your interests. Hyd 27, 2009, 7:36am (top)Message 19: MrAndrewHello amy. I'm here to steal your soul. ...just kidding! welcome! >#17: Mary, your open mind is heartwarming. However i hate to say that Carrol is almost certainly not Carrol Spncr (with or without surname vowels), and that spam link to finance or whatever it is, is almost certainly not accidental. Hyd 27, 2009, 7:50am (top)Message 20: MerryMaryYou'd think at my age I'd be a little more savvy. Hyd 27, 2009, 8:01am (top)Message 21: MrAndrewThere are worse things than giving the benefit of the doubt. ...now, i have a bridge i'd like to sell you... Hyd 27, 2009, 4:40pm (top)Message 22: jillmwoDon't do it, MerryMary. I bought that bridge once and it *can't* be moved to the swamp land that I own in Florida! Hyd 27, 2009, 9:56pm (top)Message 23: MerryMaryI've got a bridge over the Dismal* I've been trying to unload... *A very nice river about 2 blocks from my house. I like to call my town Dunning-on-the-Dismal. Hyd 28, 2009, 8:06am (top)Message 24: cal8769Whenever I see this thread I have to say the name ...with a Count Dracula accent. Hyd 28, 2009, 5:16pm (top)Message 25: MrAndrewGood evenink. I am new, and i am here to zuck your bloooood. Ahahahaha! Actually, i get more of a muppet Count effect. One! One new member! Ahahahaha! Hyd 28, 2009, 5:24pm (top)Message 26: MerryMaryDahlink! You are most velcome. *shuddery pipe organ chord crash* Hyd 29, 2009, 12:26am (top)Message 27: WholeHouseLibraryHey! I can fix that pipe organ for you if you want me to. I worked for a pipe organ builder once. How fast was it going when the crash occurred? Hyd 29, 2009, 12:29am (top)Message 28: MerryMaryNo Hyd 29, 2009, 12:32am (top)Message 29: MrAndrewVivacissimo. Very dangerous pace for a pipe organ. I suspect that the player had imbibed a few sherries. Hyd 29, 2009, 12:46am (top)Message 30: WholeHouseLibraryI heard all the stops were pulled out. That was a very gestalt thing to do. Hyd 29, 2009, 1:00am (top)Message 31: MerryMaryIt was an occasion of note. The keys are missing, and the press is trying to soft-pedal the whole thing. Hyd 29, 2009, 1:29am (top)Message 32: WholeHouseLibraryI got wind of that too! Hyd 30, 2009, 5:59pm (top)Message 33: jillmwoYou know, there are snake-oil remedies for people who suffer from wind, WHL! You might want to look into that. Hyd 30, 2009, 6:32pm (top)Message 34: WholeHouseLibraryYeah, well... Just be thankful you weren't downwind of me... Tach 6, 2009, 7:29am (top)Message 35: TheoClarkeWell, this thread has given amy173 a remarkably accurate picture of LT talk. If you stick around, Amy, you know that you have already made it through the first initiation test. Tach 7, 2009, 6:50am (top)Message 36: amy173Oh, you guys! The name is because I come from a factory making Amys. Limited edition. Only 174 were made. Tach 7, 2009, 7:18am (top)Message 37: MrAndrewnow i'm curious about what amy174 did, so that they stopped the production line. Or... was there an amy0? Are you the 174th? and what did you do? Tach 7, 2009, 9:23am (top)Message 38: jillmwoEven a more fundamental question --> what's an amy and what goes into producing same? Tach 7, 2009, 9:30am (top)Message 39: pollysmithI think they are massing for an attack! Tach 7, 2009, 10:57am (top)Message 40: TheoClarke#38 "Sugar and spice and all things nice" according to my research. Tach 7, 2009, 2:18pm (top)Message 41: amy173the recipe is top secret, I'm afraid. Tach 7, 2009, 2:24pm (top)Message 42: MrAndrew#40: you ate one? Several, in fact.
